NEW STUDY LINKS DEPRESSION WITH ARTHRITIS

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - A new study published in the International Journal of Psychiatry on Aging links arthritis and osteoporosis to varying degrees of depression.

The study conducted an analysis of the data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011-2014 on American adults aged 50 or over.

Arthritis was 55%, 62.9% and 67.8% for mild, moderate and severe depression. The findings also highlighted the importance of examining and treating the pain of related arthritis in the elderly with depressive symptoms.

While it is difficult to understand that symptoms of depression and arthritis can be associated with older people, it is important to ensure access to appropriate care.
