Man rescued from shed after 40 years of being held captive

A man was rescued from a six foot pedestal because he believed he had been arrested for 40 years.

He was suspected of being locked up in the small room when he was only 18 in 1978. When he was discovered, he saw that he looked like a "bunny in the spotlight" because he was so scared of being released.

The pictures in the scene show a dirty ceiling on the floor next to a flat screen TV and a garden chair. There is also an old carpet and an electric heater that does not work in the green shed, Metro.co.uk reported.

The 58-year-old man is led by Gangmasters and the Labor Abuse Authority GLAA, which acted on a proposal. It is monitored by trauma agents who perform medical tests and assess their mental health.

The man was found this morning in a residential area near Carlisle, Cumbria.

Martin Plimmer of GLAA explained:

The information they gave us was that it was in the shed for a period of 40 years. When we found him, he was like a rabbit in the lighthouse and very confused.

Only in the clothes he was in and where he slept on the cut was there only a dirty blanket on the floor.

There was no heating and it was very cold. These were conditions under which no one should live.

Plimmer said the man seems to be doing unpaid work for 16 years or 17 years. He said it was not clear if man had ever tried to leave.

He has been traumatized for so long that regaining his trust is a slow process.

The attack is the result of a call to a confidential service, Plimmer said. A 79-year-old man was suspected of being caught in rats by modern slavery.
