Pastor, aides arrested in Uganda after failing to 'resurrect' 5-month-old sick baby who died during prayer session

The police in Luweero, Uganda, arrested a pastor and three others for the alleged murder of a four-month old man.

The "pastor", where Viola Nassanga and his helper Giulietta Nakayenga, Edith Nabuule and landlord Lazarus Walakira were arrested on Friday and are currently detained at the central police station in Luweero.

The head of the district police Luweero Benson Byaruhanga Mworozi said Nassanga a week ago, the child's mother, Asineyi Bira, wondered to pray for complaining of the disease. He adds that the child never returned until the reports were released on Thursday, but died in the room they employed from Walakira when they asked for them.

After reminding City Hall Village chairman of Lukyamu Butuntumula district, Mr. Juma Kisitu police rushed home to Pastor Viola Nasanga where reunited rotten corpses.

It is reported that after reading about death, the pastor lied to her mother, who has the power to revive her, and that she should be calm.

Pastor Nasanga told the police that they prayed and waited for God's voice to restore the child's life.

The body was taken to the Luweero IV Health Center and will be taken to Mulago for follow-up to determine what caused death.

"This is a very unfortunate incident, the police are currently being investigated. We pre-empt a murder case against the suspects while the investigations continue. We deliver the body to the burial Mulago Hospital, where a pathologist will conduct an autopsy before relatives wrote, The Luweero District Police Officer said Friday.

He said that the child identified as Anita Kwagala could have died more than two weeks ago.

Pastors Morris Kigongo and Amos Nayepe of the Brotherhood of Luweero Pastors in Luweero, distance from the suspect.

They claim that Nassanga practiced sorcery, not Christianity.

John Paul Kibalama, Managing Director of Butuntumula Subcommittee, said in a telephone interview that he had received information from the villagers Lukyamu Nasanga pastor, a Tanzanian, in a room rented from Mr Lazaro Walakira.

The mother of the dead child told the police that she had taken her daughter to Pastor Nasanga after reading from a friend that prayer could restore her son's life.

He stated that on September 30 heard a mysterious voice instructing them to go home and let God restore the child's life. According to reports, they stopped immediately in front of the house.

Caroline Nankabirwa, resident of the Lukyamu village, told Daily Monitor that Pastor Nasanga attracted several people to pray with her.

"People come and pray with her. We know them as a Tanzanian citizen, even though she has changed her original name to Nasanga," said Nankabirwa.
